Emergency Response Volunteer Opportunities: What’s in it for me?
In a word, “experience”. It is said that most firefighters will experience a “Once in a Lifetime” event during a career in the fire service. Since 1980 alone, Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue (C2FR) has been involved in more than its fair share of historic events such as the second largest landslide in U.S. history, the 500 and 1,000 year flooding events, a head-on train collision, mass casualty motor vehicle accidents, two natural gas interstate transmission pipeline explosions, the Ball Park wildland urban interface fire, not to mention approximately 4,700 calls annually of typical EMS and fire related emergencies.

C2FR, a combination career & volunteer fire department, covers approximately 170 square miles and is located in and around the cities of Kelso and Longview, Washington, between the cities of Castle Rock and Kalama on the I-5 corridor. Our volunteer response crews consist of approximately 100 dedicated men and women who respond to various emergencies from one of our six stations. Our career response crews consist of three platoons of eight full-time paid members, each supplemented by various volunteer programs. The primary services provided by C2FR include BLS response, ALS transport, structural firefighting, wildland firefighting, and shorebased water rescue.
