Requirements to Become a Volunteer

Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue maintains six volunteer stations. Volunteers are assigned to a station depending on where they live. Drill nights are Wednesdays from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. As space is available, ride time is possible on these nights until you are cleared to respond with your station. Until you are notified that you are covered by our insurance, there is to be NO participation in drills, etc.

Volunteer Application Requirements

bullet Must be 18 years or older
bullet Fill out an application packet during the open enrollment period (see volunteer entry process for dates and timeframe)
bullet Copy of a valid WA State Drivers License
bullet Copy of your 5-year driving abstract from WA State DOL (applicant's responsibility)
bullet Copy of High School Diploma or GED
bullet No felony convictions on your criminal history

Requirements to Become a Volunteer Firefighter:

bullet Fill out and return the application packet and provide all of the "Volunteer Application Requirements" listed above (see volunteer entry process for more info)
bullet Take and pass a physical (paid for by C2FR)
bullet Take and pass a drug screen (paid for by C2FR)
bullet Agree to a background check (conducted and paid for by C2FR)
bullet Take and pass TB & Hepatitis B series tests (paid for by C2FR)
bullet Successfully complete the Recruit Academy (which is held in the spring of each year)
bullet Successful completion of a work abilities test (after completion of the Recruit Academy)
bullet Lateral Firefighter Entry must:
bullet Have within the past year successfully completed a Recruit Academy elsewhere with written proof of such; or
bullet Active within the last 12 months in a fire department elsewhere and must provide proof; and
bullet Be able to demonstrate competency in the basic evolutions found in the WSP FFI Modules I and II

Requirements to Become a Medical Volunteer:

bullet Fill out and return the application packet and provide all of the "Volunteer Application Requirements" listed above (see volunteer entry process for more info)
bullet Take and pass a physical (paid for by C2FR)
bullet Take and pass a drug screen (paid for by C2FR)
bullet Agree to a background check (conducted and paid for by C2FR)
bullet Take and pass TB & Hepatitis B series tests (paid for by C2FR)
bullet Successful completion of a work abilities test
bullet You must hold either a first responder certification or a Washington State EMT certification upon joining.

Commitment Required from All Volunteers

bullet To remain in good standing, each volunteer must attend a minimum of 50% of the drills and respond to 20% of the calls.
