Station 28 - Maintenance Shop
Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue's maintenance shop now has two mechanics, Dirk Carner and Dan Cliffton. Together, Dirk and Dan have over 30 years combined experience in the heavy truck and emergency vehicles industry. They provide routine and emergency repairs and maintenance for all of our apparatus. During the year, each piece of apparatus is required to have an annual service completed. Maintaining the apparatus of Cowlitz 2 is a never-ending job. They provide all of the services to maintain an efficient emergency response fleet for Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue. In the Spring of 2002, we were able to install a 12,000 gallon in-ground tank to serve as a test pit. This enables our mechanics to perform annual pump testing, as well as pump troubleshooting at our shop without having to contract with an industry for the use of their "fire ponds". This has proven to be a cost savings and frees up staff time, since it can all be taken care of by our mechanics. Meet our Mechanics:
Our mechanics are certified in the following areas: The average cost to service a fire engine is approximately $1,025.69. The average cost to service an ambulance is $508.41. We have expanded our shop from 800 square feet to 4,000 square feet. Our mechanics now have the ability to raise vehicles for a better inspection of the undercarriage, which speeds up the time taken to troubleshoot a problem.
