Smoke Alarm Program

Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue offers free smoke alarms to the citizens in our community. If you do not have a smoke alarm, or your smoke alarm has malfunctioned, please contact Brandi Ballinger by e-mail or call 360.575.6280 with the following information: name, address, city and phone number(s) to contact you. We will contact you within a few days from the date of your request and set up an appointment to install them in your home for free or check your existing smoke alarms.

Smoke Alarms: What You Should Know:
In the event of a fire, properly installed and maintained smoke alarms will provide an early warning alarm to your household. This could save the lives of you and your family.

Location of smoke alarms: Install smoke alarms on every level of your home. For extra safety, you can install smoke alarms both inside and outside of sleeping areas. They can be installed on the ceiling or above eye level on the wall. Always follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.

Life expectancy of a smoke alarm: Smoke alarms last approximately 10 years. Some may require replacement prior to 10 years.

Battery replacement: As a reminder: when you change your clocks, change your smoke alarm batteries. However, some smoke alarms come with a ten-year lithium battery now. This type of smoke alarm is designed to be replaced as a whole unit.

Testing smoke alarms: The best practice is to test your smoke alarms monthly.
