Logistics
Overview:
Jeremy Huff and
Jennifer Olin are in chare of the
Logistics Section for Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue with oversight from
Asst Chief Alan Headley. Logistics is a large, encompassing project for Cowlitz 2.
Logistics
involves locating and purchasing equipment and supplies that fulfill
requirements for the day-to-day operations of our fire department. This includes
everything from everyday items to new apparatus purchases. Logistics is also
responsible for apparatus and station maintenance projects, including renovations
and new construction. We have established numerous good working relationships
with vendors and suppliers. When cost effective and practical, Cowlitz 2 Fire &
Rescue makes every effort to keep our business local.
Why do
firefighters have to wear the gear they do and what does it cost?
Firefighters
wear protective clothing required by NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency)
#1971. This gear, called "bunker gear", protects firefighters from the heat and
contaminants of structure fires, as well as being BPR (Blood
Pathogen Resistance) certified. This "bunker gear" is very expensive. The following is a
list of the basic firefighting gear required to outfit one firefighter.
Bunker
Coat.................................. $783.00
Bunker Pants.................................$574.00
Liteforce Plus Helmet.................. $235.00
Ranger Rubber Bunker Boots...$200.00
Nomex Fire Hood.............................$40.00
Leather NFPA Fire Gloves.............$64.00
Total............................$1,896.00
With a minimum of 150 personnel, volunteer and career, this is a minimum cost of
$250,000.
