Before You Begin To Fight the Fire
Make sure everyone has left or is exiting the building.
Make sure the fire department has been called (use a neighbors phone when needed).
Make sure the fire is confined and not spreading.
Be sure you have a clear escape route and always keep the exit to your back to prevent from becoming trapped.
Be sure you have read and understand the instructions for your extinguisher before using it.
It is unsafe to fight a fire under any other circumstance.
Instead, leave immediately and close off the area.
