Car Seat Information

There are periodic car seat clinics available to the public (see schedule). Low income families looking for a car seat must first establish eligibility by calling or emailing Delaney Heston with the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office at 360.577.3092 or Brandi Ballinger at Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue at 360.575.6280. A donation will be requested for all seats given out.

Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue provides free car seat inspections in between clinics. We also have car seats available for families to purchase for $15 to $50, depending on the family's source of income and need. If you would like to set up an appointment for a car seat inspection or to find out your eligibility to purchase a car seat, please contact Brandi Ballinger by email or by phone at 360.575.6280. Delaney Heston with the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office is also a certified car seat technician and she is available by appointment only to assist you as well. Her phone number is 360.577.3092 or you can email her by clicking her name above.

Find out which car seat is right for your child.
Find out if your car seat is on the recall list.

Local statistics show that 90% of car seats are used incorrectly. Are you using your child's car seat correctly? You'll know for sure if you come to a clinic and let us check how you've installed your child's seat. The seat will also be checked for recalls, and we'll make sure it's the right seat for your child. If there are some corrections to make, we'll show you how to make them so your child is riding safely. Belt-positioning booster seats are easy to use, affordable and safe when used properly. Click here for a flyer on booster seats.

REMEMBER:
The law that took place effect June 1, 2007, now states that your child must be in a child restraint system (car seat or booster seat) until they are AT LEAST 8 years old OR 4 feet 9 inches tall. This are the MINIMUM requirements. Click here to take the 5-step test and find out if your child should still be riding in a booster seat after they have exceeded the age, height and/or weight limit.
