Volunteers
The Shift
Volunteer program was established to assist volunteer members in advancing their
knowledge, skills, and abilities primarily through experience and emergency
response as well as supporting daily operational needs.
Do I
Qualify?
Shift Volunteers are required to be 18 years old, a Washington State Certified
EMT, able to demonstrate competency in all Washington State Firefighter I
skills, possess a valid driver’s license, be EVAP or EVOC certified, and
complete routine entrance requirements. Successful Shift Volunteer applicants
will be contacted as positions are available to determine their availability and
assignment.

Q) Is this a job?
A) No, this is a volunteer position for which is reimbursed through a point
system.
Q) How much time must I commit to the program?
A) Once you qualify for the program you must participate a minimum of 24 hours
per month as a Shift Volunteer, and an additional nine hours per month volunteer
time; such as, a member of C2FR with a volunteer station, participation in the
Station 23 Day Shift Program, a special assignment, or additional time as a
Shift Volunteer or Intern.
Q) Can I receive college credit for my participation?
A) Yes, you must pre-arrange this with your college advisor who will contact us
or send for pre-approval documentation of what is expected of both you and the
department.
Q) Does C2FR pay for my schooling?
A) The purpose of the point system is to assist with school costs while
providing you an opportunity to experience hands-on application of the knowledge
and skills you have learned.
Q) What if I have class or a job?
A) The Shift Volunteer Program is a more intense developmental program and as
such is designed for the individual that can commit to the time they sign up
for. If this does not meet your needs, you may want to visit with us about our
Intern Program which does allow you to leave for
school.
